Pulled my laptop out of my laptop bag and it won't power on. No lights, no nothing. I ordered a replacement HP power cord and that didn't work either. Bad battery? It hadn't been used in a couple of months, so I'm sure it didn't have any charge left, but now seems to not take one either. No lights. Nada. What's my next move?

@PluralOfMoose
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Firstly, run Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8 (if the computer doesn't start up/power on you can skip the next step)

Next step, BIOS default: ( refer to the non-removeable battery )

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks, but that’s a no to all your questions. The steps you mention require the computer to power on—but my computer Not powering on is the issue. Any solutions?

Thank you for posting back.

This sounds like hardware related issue with the computer as it's not powering on.

I would request you to reach out to our Support and our Support Engineers should be able to sort this out. HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
