Every time I reboot my notebook, it freezes on the background picture. The time is continuous (1:06pm CST) but the screen is frozen and I cannot even type in my credentials to log in. The cursor is also frozen, although I can see it. This just started happening about a month ago. I ran a Fast system test and the results were good...no problems found. I am now running an Extensive Test, but I want to get ahead of the problem, in case no issues are found. The test is 4 hours, approximately. Can anyone help?

Laptop freezing is nearly always caused by hard drive problems -- as failing sectors cause the same data to be read over and over and over, and the laptop freezes until that is done.

If the short test passed, and you hare doing the long test -- that should tell you something useful.

I will let you know as soon as the testing is done. 2 hours left. Thank you for your reply!

Well......thanks for the suggestion but I am still having the same issue. Screen is freezing. What next?

What you can do is take the hard drive out of the picture and see if the problem continues.  To do that you need to make boot media so Windows can run from that without needing to access the hard drive.

You will need to create Boot Media using a working PC.

Macrium Reflect is a free tool that can be used to image and restore PCs, but it also has an option to create Rescue Media (in disk or USB form) that can then be used to bot and/or Repair your PC.

It is available from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx

What I recommend is the following:
a) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
b) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD
c) Boot your PC from the MR media -- it will take a while, so be patient!

Thank you for the response! I have downloaded the MR and I am now creating the boot option on the USB. How do I boot from the USB to the laptop?

The Macrium did not work.

SO, I just set my laptop to recover. This is not working either!

The screen I see is Blue

And I have been seeing the message: "Windows is installing 88%. Please do not turn off computer"

That has been saying that since 10 pm last night.

Any other suggestions? Please help!

What do you mean the MR did not work?  What happened when you tried to use it?

The whole time I tried to transfer to the USB thumb drive, it took All Day and half of the next day. That is why I just wanted to do a Hard reset on the laptop. I am tired of messing with it. But that failed as well!!
