@EricHinkle01, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be when your laptop keeps restarting without warning. Let's walk through some steps to help resolve this issue on your HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (794H8AV) running Windows 10.
Disable Automatic Restart
This will allow you to see any error messages (like a Blue Screen) instead of the system restarting immediately.
- Press Windows + R, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter.
- Go to the Advanced tab > under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
- Uncheck Automatically restart under System failure.
- Click OK and restart your laptop.
Check for Overheating
Overheating can cause sudden restarts. Ensure your laptop is on a hard, flat surface and the vents are not blocked.
- Clean the air vents using compressed air.
- Avoid using the laptop on soft surfaces like beds or couches.
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated BIOS or drivers can cause instability.
- Open HP Support Assistant (pre-installed on most HP laptops). HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Go to Updates and install all recommended updates, especially BIOS and chipset drivers.
Or manually update from here: Official HP® Support
Run HP Diagnostics
Use HP’s built-in diagnostics to check for hardware issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the System Test and Component Tests (especially memory and hard drive).
Scan for Malware
Malware can cause system instability. Run a full scan using:
- Windows Defender or
- A trusted antivirus like Malwarebytes.
Check Event Viewer for Errors
- Press Windows + X > Event Viewer.
- Look under Windows Logs > System for any critical errors around the time of the restarts.
Perform a Clean Boot
This helps identify if a background app is causing the issue.
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Under Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab > Open Task Manager > Disable all startup items.
- Restart your laptop.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
