Hi @coolwater1,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding resetting your PIN on your HP 17.3-inch Laptop PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Use Password Instead:
- Initially, try logging in using your account password instead of the PIN, if available. This may bypass the PIN reset screen and allow access to your desktop.
Reset PIN via Settings:
- Once logged in, you can reset your PIN:
- Click on the Start menu and select Settings.
- Navigate to Accounts > Sign-in options.
- Under PIN (Windows Hello), select I forgot my PIN.
- Follow the prompts to reset your PIN using your Microsoft account credentials or password.
Safe Mode:
- If you're unable to access your account at all, try booting into Safe Mode, where you might be able to reset or bypass the PIN requirement:
- Restart your computer and repeatedly press F8 or Shift + F8 during startup to enter Safe Mode.
- Once in Safe Mode, try accessing your account settings to change or remove the PIN requirement.
Use Microsoft Account Online:
- If resetting from the laptop doesn't work, try resetting your Microsoft account credentials:
- Visit the Microsoft Account Password Reset page and follow the instructions to reset your password.
- Use the newly reset password to log into your laptop.
Create a New Local Account:
- If PIN reset continues to fail, consider creating a new local account to regain access to your system:
- Boot into Safe Mode, then go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Add a new user without attaching a Microsoft account.
- Log in using this account and try adjusting PIN settings.
Windows Reset:
- As a last resort, you can perform another reset but choose the Keep my files option to preserve your data:
- Go to Settings > System > Recovery and use the reset option.
I hope this helps.
