I accidentally turned off my HP Envy through my attached Samsung s10. I turned off and restarted the phone, which turned off the laptop. How do I restart the laptop? Thanks for your help!

Hi @Owlett

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that  your HP Envy fails to turn on, start, or boot, follow the detailed troubleshooting steps for desktop boot below. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Initial Precautions and Hardware Reset

Verify Power Supply: Ensure that the power cable is properly connected and the power outlet is functional.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect the power cable.
  • Remove all external devices (printers, external hard drives, USB drives) except for the mouse, keyboard, and monitor.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and turn the computer back on using the power button.

Diagnosis and Next Steps

Does the Computer Turn On?

  • If No: The computer may not be receiving power. Consider setting up a repair

Hardware Test and Windows Not Starting

Run Diagnostic Tests:

  • Turn off the computer.
  • Turn it back on and repeatedly press esc until a menu appears.
  • Press f2 to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).
  • Run the Fast Test and then the Extensive Test if no issues are detected initially. Document any failure IDs for customer support.

Resetting Windows Using Recovery Environment

Using Windows Recovery:

  • Restart your computer and press the f11 key repeatedly to open the Windows Recovery Environment.
  • Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC to initiate a system reset while following on-screen instructions. This step may take a few minutes.

Symptoms and Specific Troubleshooting

Common Issues:

  • No Power: Focus on power adapter or battery issues.
  • Blank Screen: Try connecting an external monitor to check the display.
  • Stuck on Logo: Clean the computer vents and try booting again.
  • Error Messages: Refer to specific diagnostic error documentation if BIOS or hardware messages appear.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello and thank you so much for your helpful guidance. Unfortunately, I had to take my laptop in for service. They had to do a hard reset by taking the back off and pulling the batteries out and replacing them to get the PC to reset.

Note to self: never connect a smartphone to a PC then turn off and restart the phone. It totally shuts down the PC to the point that it cannot be restarted without removing and replacing the batteries.
