Hi @5CD3163MC8,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your laptop is powering on but the screen remains blank, it could be due to several issues ranging from display problems to hardware failures. Here’s a systematic approach to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Troubleshooting Steps

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Power Off the Laptop:

  • Shut down the laptop completely and unplug it from any power sources. If the battery is removable, take it out.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  1. Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  2. Reinsert the battery (if applicable) and plug the power adapter back in.
  3. Power on the laptop to see if the display comes back.

2. Check for External Display

Connect to an External Monitor:

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using an HDMI or VGA cable (depending on your laptop’s ports). This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop’s internal display or the graphics hardware.

Toggle Display Modes:

  • On many laptops, you can switch between the internal display and an external monitor using a function key (e.g., Fn + F4, Fn + F5, Fn + F8). Look for a key with a monitor icon.

3. Inspect the Laptop Screen

Check for Backlight:

  • Shine a flashlight on the screen at different angles. If you can faintly see images or text, it might be a backlight issue rather than a complete display failure.

Look for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the screen for any cracks or damage. Physical damage might require screen replacement.

4. Reset the RAM

  • Remove and Reinstall RAM Modules:
    • If you’re comfortable opening your laptop, try reseating the RAM. Remove the RAM modules and reinstall them to ensure they are properly connected. Sometimes, loose RAM can cause display issues.

5. Check for Beep Codes or LED Indicators

Listen for Beep Codes:

  • When powering on, listen for any beep codes from the laptop. Beep codes can indicate specific hardware issues.

Check LED Indicators:

  • Observe any LED lights on the laptop. Refer to your laptop’s manual to interpret any blinking patterns or colors that may indicate a problem.

6. Reseat or Replace Internal Components

Inspect and Reseat Components:

  • If you’re experienced, inspect and reseat internal components like the hard drive or GPU (if applicable).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
