There is still battery remains but it simply switches itself off. I tried to run the hard disk and battery tests on the initial hp screen. Seems ok.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

@sedab

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

Absolutely, it looks like you've got a hang of these technicalities 😉

You may replace the battery through HP Phone support or if you are no longer covered by the HP Warranty you could replace the same at the HP Parts store or at a local store nearby your place.

That said, if the issue persists after the battery replacement, it's either the motherboard or the charger port faulty as it no longer charges the battery in such cases,

I personally suggest you take the computer to the local store, replace the battery locally and make your choice.

If you wish to replace parts and diagnose this further via HP phone support:

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number to obtain a case along with the phone number.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Hi @sedab,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips, Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the computer is powering on, however, doesn't boot into windows, And it turns off after a few seconds after it's turned on,

To provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you made any software or hardware changes on the PC?

Was there any update/reset interrupted recently?

Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting this on HP Forums?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a hard reset (click here for details)

If the computer still turns off every few seconds, try with an alternate adapter and/or remove the battery and try turning on the computer without the battery,

only connect the adapter and start, let me know if that works.

For more details, please follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP PCs - The Computer Restarts Unexpectedly (Windows 10, 😎 - Click here

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

The answer to your questions is no, no changes, interruptions.

I also have done the troubleshooting.

Completed the checks and even puchased compressed air to clean off the dust.

When i take the battery off and leave it plugged in, it stays on.

My confusion is that the computer check on the battery showed the performance is lower but battery is still at acceptable quality.

Can you advise further please?

Thanks,

Seda

And I'll be glad to help you out.

The Riddle_Decipher is at your service,

With a query of his own (Speaking in 3rd person view, is fun at times 😉 )

In order to test if its a hardware or software issue,

You will need to enter the BIOS screen by tapping on the F10 key during a restart,

And wait on the same screen for the amount of time it usually would crash the computer.

If it crashes, while you are in the BIOS it would confirm a hardware malfunction,

If it doesn't crash, please create a new user account profile and check if the issue persists.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Hello Riddle_Decipher,

Just to make sure, I understand this correctly, do you mean to stay on that screen on battery power, without being plgged in?

Thanks,

@sedab

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

Normally, it's whatever makes the computer turn off on it own if you wish to identify the issue,

In your case, it's with the battery as that's causing the issue.

Hi Riddle_Decipher,

Thank you, I think this is getting me close to identifying the issue now.

I have restarted the computer when the battery was full, unplugged. While in the BIOS, lasted about 3 minutes and the laptop switched itself off.

As per your earlier message, this  would confirm a hardware malfunction. Does it mean I need to replace the battery?

Many thanks for your help!
