OMEN 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-b1000 (4Z7T3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My hp omen 16 b1000 laptop randomly turned off. I found that the adapter was overheating because I left it under my jacket. So, I let everything cool down overnight. Now it just wont power up even after power reseting without a battery. The charger port shows a white light and not orange and when pressing the power button it shows a white light for 2 seconds and turns off. The power button does the same with just the battery as well. I tested the adapter with another laptop but it only needs 45W unlike the 230W charger I have now and it charges that laptop.

Hi @Trevor83,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Omen 16 laptop suddenly powered off while in use, there could be several possible reasons for this issue. Let's go through some common causes and troubleshooting steps.

  • Overheating: Overheating is a common reason for sudden shutdowns in laptops. When the system temperature exceeds safe limits, it will automatically shut down to prevent damage. Ensure that the laptop's cooling system (fans, vents, heatsinks) is clean and not blocked. Consider using a cooling pad to help with ventilation during heavy usage.
  • Power-related issue: Check if the laptop's battery is charged and the power adapter is properly connected. A faulty battery or power adapter can cause unexpected shutdowns. Try using a different power adapter or battery if possible.
  • Hardware or Driver Issues: Faulty hardware components or outdated/incompatible drivers can cause unexpected shutdowns. Make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially the graphics and chipset drivers. You can download the latest drivers from HP's official website.
  • Software or OS Problem: Occasionally, software glitches or issues with the operating system can cause sudden shutdowns. Make sure your operating system is up to date and perform a thorough malware scan to check for any potential infections.
  • RAM or Hard Drive Problems: Faulty RAM or hard drive can also lead to unexpected shutdowns. Run a memory diagnostic test to check the RAM's health, and use a disk utility tool to check the hard drive for errors.
  • Overloaded System: Running too many resource-intensive applications simultaneously can overload the system, leading to shutdowns. Monitor your system's performance and close unnecessary applications.
  • BIOS Settings: Incorrect BIOS settings could also cause instability. Make sure your BIOS is up to date and reset it to default settings if you're unsure about any changes you might have made.
  • Faulty Motherboard or Power Supply: In more severe cases, a faulty motherboard or power supply unit (PSU) might be the root cause.

Before attempting any troubleshooting, remember to back up your important data regularly to prevent data loss in case of unexpected shutdowns.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
