Hi there,

I recentley bought an old second hand HP Elitebook 8470p to leave in an alternative place/office and not to have to be carrying my "main computer" from one place to another. This laptop works fine, though a bit old it is a great computer.

However, when I tried to use its CD/DVD unit I could not. I investigated a little bit and I found that I could not access the BIOS since that unit seemed to be disable. And not only that, but I could not even change the language of the BIOS (menus in sweedish or so). I called the laptop seller but he did not remember the password, but suggested me to contact HP Community or the company.

This is a big problem for me, since I cannot use the CD/DVD unit but cannot even use a Windows recovery pendrive, since I need to enter the BIOS to configure the setup.

That is why I need your help to access this HP bios, in order to arrange this old configuration and allow me to access to it (i.e., change language, allow use of CD/DVD, allow to start Windows from a pendrive, etc.).
Please, I hope you can give me some help on this problem.

Thank you very much in advance.

Sorry for the bad news, but this is one of the main reasons I advise folks NOT top buy used laptops -- because the BIOS password is encoded into the firmware of the BIOS chip on the motherboard and that can not be replaced.

HP will not do BIOS code changes so they insist on replacing the entire motherboard -- which generally costs more than simply replacing the laptop.

Wish I had better news -- but this is their policy.
