I have the exact same problem. Will contact hp about it, but for the meantime I'm trying the no-lock when PC sleeps solution. Hopefully this is a short-term measure and hp can fix the issue...

I HAD the same problem with my HP ENVY 17 and was reading through the 'solutions'.

User corrierich gives a good clue by disabling the HPSimplePass.exe file located in the Task Manager Startup tab.

I could now have the PC prompt for a login after Sleep or Hibernation.

I did further testing and found that if you leave the HPSimplePass.exe  enabled but right click on the filename and select 'properties' followed by the 'compatibility' tab, there is an option to 'Run as administrator'.

Selecting this option fixed my problem and the password prompt appears as it should.

I had tried running as Windows8 but it did not work.  I rebooted the machine after every option tried to have the machine in a known state when testing the sleep or hibernate.  I must have spent at least half a day to be confident it was one check box.

I do not use the fingerprint reader (HPSimplePass) but found that if HPSimplePass was disabled, my PC appeared slower at startup.

Hope this helps others.  It was a frustrating issue that was driving me nuts.  Thanks to corrierich for the clue.
