Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-s0000 (76T54AV)

Hello everyone,

I've recently bought a Victus 16 laptop, without os.

Naturally, I was ready to install a new one thanks to a usb boot device. I've already done it and have some experience with the process.

Unfortunately, my laptop was unable to detect any USB device connected to it. After a couple of days of discussions and troubleshooting, the hp support and I concluded that the laptop had a hardware flaw.

I still need to buy a new laptop and the Victus 16 meets all my needs. I want to think that I was really unlucky and that my laptop was just a brick, but maybe I am wrong.

Can anyone relate to what I have experienced ? Or did I fail that bad to use a bootable USB device on my laptop ?

I figured out the manipulations to do in order to detect a usb stick boot :

- remove any usb stick plugged into the computer ;

- restaure default parameter in bios, that is accessible with F10 ;

- restart the computer than press esc to pause the startup process ;

- press F9 to go on boot mode ;

- plug the usb stick in the computer, I plugged it in the usb port next to the HDMI port (right side of the computer) ;

The USB stick showed right away and I could install linux Ubuntu 24.04 LTS without any issues.

The brand of the USB stick doesn't matter.

@Willmdr, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

I understand how frustrating it must be to face USB boot issues on a brand-new HP Victus 16. Let's walk through a few key steps to ensure everything is set up correctly before concluding it's a hardware issue.

Verify USB Boot Device

  • Ensure your USB drive is properly created using tools like Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool.
  • Format it as FAT32 (especially for UEFI boot).
  • Confirm it boots on another PC to rule out USB corruption.

Access BIOS Settings

  • Power on the laptop and immediately press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to System Configuration > Boot Options:
    • Enable Legacy Support (if available).
    • Enable USB Boot.
    • Disable Secure Boot (temporarily, for booting non-signed OS installers).
  • Save changes and exit.

Use Boot Menu

  • Insert the USB drive.
  • Power on and press Esc, then F9 to access the Boot Device Options.
  • Select your USB device from the list.

Update BIOS (if needed)

  • If the USB still isn't detected, update your BIOS using another PC:
  • Download the latest BIOS update and follow the instructions to create a BIOS recovery USB.

Try Different USB Ports

  • Use USB-A ports instead of USB-C.
  • Avoid using USB hubs or adapters.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!

Hello @Max3Aj, I've received my new HP Victus 16 model, once again without OS. Windows is not installed on this computer.

And just like on the previous HP Victus 16 computer I had, usb drives are not detected.

I tried to update the BIOS, but the F2 option in the computer doesn't even have this option. So it doesn't seem like I can update the BIOS.

The only plausible lead that is left is this post, whose solution was apparently to use a kingston 3.1 USB stick : https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HP-Victus-16-s1000-Won-t-Boot-f...
