HP Stream Notebook PC 13
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I have been given a new HP Stream Notebook PC 13 by a family member. They bought it a while ago, but it is out of warranty.  When they connected it, it did not work at all. It never booted. They have two young children and never found the time to get it sorted out.

I have connected the power lead and switched it on. It does not boot and shows the screen in the photos attached. It is a mass of different colours.

I would really appreciate some advice, please. Many thanks in anticipation. Regards, Mike

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the screen has multiple colors on display, doesn't display boot up sequence,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Are they any physical cracks on the screen?

Did you check with an alternate monitor to see if the desktop screen shows up?

If you haven't, Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,

if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,

if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here

If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)

If the issue does not appear in BIOS, reinstall the graphics card drivers & update BIOS using the above link,
If it does, Contact HP to replace the LCD/Repair the computer:

If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)

HP Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty repair services under the manufacturer's warranty will be free of charge.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Thank you so much for the very detaild response. I will try these tomorrow and report back.

Yesterday I connected the machine to my TV via an HDMI cable and found that the HP streamer is working. We have been able to connect to the wi-fi and test it, so it works. The screen is still an issue and I will go through your suggestions tomorrow. The screen is fully intact.

Thanks again.

@Mikegolfgarrett

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

If the TV via HDMI is working or showing a display, that would confirm a hardware malfunction with the LCD panel,

I recommend you Contact HP to have the laptop display either repaired or replaced,

Alternatively, you can also purchase the display assembly via HP Part store,

Use the HP Parts Surfer to identify the part number.

Thank you very much for your latest response.

Having considered the options with the latest information, it's best use will be to use the iPlayer function and/or youtube and link when needed to an HD TV with an HDMI port.

Many thanks for your responses.

Regards

Mike
