HP Pavilion laptop screen goes black and laptop locks up after a while of being on the charger.
Even the Caps Lock light won't toggle when locked up, and I have to force power-off and reboot to recover.
Tried various sleep and power setting combinations: didn't resolve.
If I put the laptop to Sleep manually, then it wakes up fine.
So what is going on when it tries to remain connected to power for more than 10 or 20 minutes without mouse/keyboard input?

Hello @MrNara
(1) Plugin Power Adapter
(2) Update BIOS
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) | F.36 Rev.A | 9.7 MB | Sep 7, 2021 | Download |
HP Consumer Desktop / Notebook PC ME Firmware Update | 2021.1.0902 Rev.A | 33.9 MB | Sep 2, 2021 | Download |
(3) install graphics driver ( one will work ! )
Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver - Kaby Lake | 23.20.16.4973 Rev.D | 329.5 MB | Jun 8, 2018 | Download |
or
NVIDIA Graphics Driver | 23.21.13.8912 Rev.D | 546.9 MB | Jun 8, 2018 | Download |
(4) Shutdown your computer ( No sleep , no hibernate )
(5) Start your notebook and test again ...

I already had the F.36 version of the BIOS, but I installed it again from your link.
The PC ME firmware update in your link got me to version X.X.86 from version X.X.50 for one of the components, as indicated in a command window output during the install.
I wonder why the HP Support Assistant (I frequently check for updates) app didn't alert me to that minor version update.
I also updated the Intel graphics driver from your link.
But the problem still recurs: screen goes black after a while, power button is lit, I can hear the fan; but no input will wake the laptop.

@ub6424, I tried a number of settings there, and the problem persisted.
This setting(s) finally works:
Thanks!

Hello @MrNara
Please follow instructions ...
(1) Download and install BIOS
HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) | F.37 Rev.A | 9.7 MB | Apr 20, 2022 | Download |
Why should you install the update ?

Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:
- An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
- The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
- HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.
"
(2) Reboot
(3) Let BIOS be installed until it's completely done !
(4) Download and Install
Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver | 2108.100.0.1053 Rev.E | 17.2 MB | Aug 29, 2021 | Download |
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI | 7.6.2.0 Rev.A | 42.7 MB | Jun 12, 2020 | Download |
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows | 1.6.0.0 Rev.A | 55.3 MB | Jul 31, 2019 | Download |
(5) Reboot and test again ...
(6) Please report your results

@ub6424, that did not fix the problem; I applied all the updates above (the "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI" said I already had a newer version), and when I selected 3 mins and 10 mins for turning screen off on battery and when plugged-in respectively, the laptop locked up again.
Something is up with the screen/video driver that does not like the Power settings.
I've set it to Never, Never for Screen, and it seems to be ok for now.
(Sleep implies Screen Off anyway)
This problem only happens on this HP Pavilion. I have non-Pavilion HP laptops, and it works fine there.
