My laptop won't POST. The screen is black/blank. The power light turns on but the caps lock light won't. I tried key resets including repeatedly pressing various keys(Esc,f6,f10,f11) which worked last time this happened. I tried the win + v/b. I tried reseating the ram and ssd. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, Nothing works. Please help

Hi @NanamiXJinshi

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I acknowledge the issue with your notebook not completing POST and showing a blank screen. Let us proceed with recommended steps to restore functionality:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any external devices.
  2. If the battery is removable, detach it.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual power.
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter (leave the battery out for now) and attempt to power on.

Step 2: Use HP BIOS Recovery

  1. With the notebook powered off, press and hold Windows + B keys.
  2. While holding the keys, press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the power button but continue holding the keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
  3. Follow the on‑screen instructions to recover the BIOS.

Step 3: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Power off the notebook.
  2. Press the power button and immediately start pressing Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Run the System Test, including memory and storage checks.

Step 4: Reset CMOS (if applicable)

  1. Disconnect AC adapter and battery.
  2. Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect power and attempt startup.

Step 5: Update BIOS and Drivers via HP App

  1. If the notebook starts, open the HP App from Windows.
  2. Navigate to Updates and install the latest BIOS and driver updates.
  3. Restart the notebook after updates are applied.

For detailed instructions, please refer to HP’s official support resource:
HP Notebook PCs – Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10 and 11)

These steps are specific and accurate to address the blank screen and POST issue.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hey, my warranty had expired and there was no HP repair shop nearby but I did find a local shop to to help me. My laptop needed to be reflashed and the ram was dead. Got a new ram and reflashed it, I am using it right now. Thank you so much for your help.
