Omen 15-ax212nl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to update the BIOS of my Omen 15-ax212nl to version F.53 REV. A but it is stuck at flashing boot block 90% for the last 45 minutes.

The power button is not doing what it is supposed to do, so now I'm waiting for the battery to get to 0%, and then hope it will turn on without issues.

Does anyone know a button combination or something to get the PC to turn off right now? The battery is non-removable so that's out of the question.

This is the second time I try to update the BIOS and everything goes south.

Thanks

@rowsdower69420 Oh! that may need a BIOS recovery, a possible interruption, not deliberate, however, a power failure or a slight disconnection from the internet while downloading the BIOS update, could cause such issues, nevertheless, we have a few steps that should help resolve the issue, once and for all:

Click here to perform a hard reset on your device

If the issue persists, after the above steps, try the below:

  1. Turn off the notebook.

  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

  3. With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

       NOTE:

On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key  and the V key.

  4. While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.

    • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps. If the issue persists after repeating the steps, skip to the next step to Download a replacement BIOS file.

    • If the Power light turns off, the notebook has turned off because the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds only.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

Hi @Riddle_Decipher and thank you for your answer.

Unfortunately I can't follow the first guide you linked to hard reset the PC: I can't turn it off!

The only thing I can do is unplug the power supply and wait for the battery to get to 0%, and I don't think this is the best way to do it. Maybe there is a button combination I can try when this happens?

Anyway, when I do it and then restart my PC everything is working fine, except the firmware is still on the old version.

I tried the update again after dowloading the BIOS file another time and the same thing happened. The probability of the file corrupting during download three times is pretty low, maybe there is something wrong with the update itself?

@rowsdower69420 I suggest you install all available updates from HP and the Microsoft updates to ensure everything is at it's latest version, then, ensure your internet is fine, there are no cause of interruption in anyway, then, install the BIOS update, and it should works,

Also, out of curiosity, is there any specific reason you which to upgrade the BIOS, as it's only done to resolve certain issues, do you have an issue as such with the device?

Keep me posted.
