Bought this Omen 16 11 months ago, started to have intermittent black screen issues (mostly while gaming) about 1 week ago (no issues up till then).  Event viewer noted that drive was flipping in and out of modern standby.  Have tried ALL HP and MS/Windows diagnostics and troubleshoots, including reinstalling Windows 11 (repair version).  None of the diagnostics picked up anything untoward, processors have been running at normal temperatures, albeit with relatively high fan speeds (5000-6000rpm).  Have installed all up to date drivers, including latest HP BIOS update.  Windows 11 reinstall 2 days ago appeared to solve the issue, but on startup today (12.45pm) laptop booted to black screen.  I could hear the windows log in screen activation beep after the omen logo, but screen is black and no mouse or keyboard response.  I can hear the fans working.  Power lead inserted, indicator light is showing.  Power light is on, showing steady no flashing.  But nothing other than black screen, and no way of getting past it.  Help please!  This is a very recent purchase and I shouldn't have to be doing all this diagnostic and troubleshooting work!

Update - reinstalling windows has 'sort of' fixed the issue, at least temporarily - still enters modern standby into black screen, but intermittently, and is usually brought out of it by flipping the lid.  Haven't tried gaming yet, am still reinstalling apps which were deleted during the windows reinstall...

Update No2:  reinstalled a number of apps deleted during Windows 11 reinstall, including AMD adrenalin and Nvidia GeForce apps.  On AMD restart, booted up to black screen as per usual, after Omen logo - heard log-in screen beep.  Tried flipping lid, no change.  Unplugged AC adapter, flipped screen lid, no change.  Restarted from power button, same outcome as above.  Pressed power button for 15+ seconds - got warning screen CMOS corrupted/damaged. Screen disappeared before I could fully read it, but I think there was an automatic timed restart.  Restarted into black screen, with log-in screen beep.  (still unplugged from AC adapter) - flipped lid and screen returned to normal, but apps previously pinned to task bar missing.  Opened AMD Adrenalin and updated chipset from AMD Install Manager.  Event Viewer noted Power Manager failing to suppress.  Downloaded and installed NVIDIA GeForce app and restarted.  Back to square one with black screen, log-in beep and no action.  Tried flipping lid while AC plugged in - nothing.  Tried flipping lid while AC unplugged - nothing.  Restarted with power button with exactly the same result - power light on, black screen and log-in screen beep. with nothing bringing it back.

Update No3:  reading HP Support on CMOS reset, it recommends recovering the BIOS.  Did this with the keyboard method - AC plugged in, Windows and B keys + power for 3 seconds.  The process claimed it was successful and restarted the laptop.  Went into normal start-up mode, Omen log and progress wheel, then opened up into blank screen, all as per previously with nothing I can do to get the screen back on.  I've spent bloody days on this now, with nothing permanent to show for it, so I guess I'll just have to wait till HP Support phoneline is back on and get the sodding thing picked up for repair.  Any help still appreciated btw.

Lets try a few troubleshooting steps before considering for repair:

 

Check External Display:

Connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort.

If the external display works, it could be an issue with your laptop screen, ribbon cable, or drivers.

 

Boot Into Safe Mode:

Turn the laptop off completely.

Power it on and force shutdown by holding the power button (repeat 3 times to trigger automatic repair mode).

In Advanced Options, choose Startup Settings → Restart → Select Safe Mode with Networking.

If Safe Mode works, the issue might be GPU driver related.

 

Reset CMOS Properly:

Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery (if possible).

Hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Reconnect power and restart.

 

Check RAM & SSD Connections:

If comfortable, open the laptop and reseat the RAM and SSD.

Loose connections might cause boot issues.

Right, you're going to have to explain to me why this appears to have worked!  I connected my laptop to an external monitor (a Samsung TV screen) and, after a little bit of fiddling around to get the correct window size/refresh rate/resolution, my laptop booted up, but did a little intermittent reverting to black screen and entering modern standby. I shut down and powered up again (all this done on AC adapter) and it went into CMOS repair mode (WITHOUT me using the power button sequence to open it.  It apparently ran the CMOS repair successfully and rebooted into the normal log in screen.  I logged in, then switched the display properties so that only the external monitor was active in order to counter laggy mouse pointing, and everything seemed to work OK.  I played a couple of games of World of Tanks while plugged into the external monitor and everything was smooth.  I then powered off using the Windows menu, let the laptop rest for a bit, then powered back up again using the power button - everything started up absolutely fine, rebooted into log-in screen, no reverting to black screen or into modern standby.  Played another couple of games of WoT while on external monitor, all went OK.  Then I powered down again, using Windows menu, unplugged the external monitor and powered back up again using the power button.  Booted into  log-in screen without any problems, ran a couple games of WoT, played a couple YouTube videos, all without any issues.  Powered down again, unplugged laptop from power source, moved back into study where I normally use it, and started up again - played a couple games WoT, all as normal with no problems.  Then, instead of shutting down, I decided to restart from the Windows menu (previously the laptop would not restart at all following this action) - this time it restarted and booted into the  log-in screen with no problems, and I've now been using it without issue for a couple of hours.  Seems like the problem is fixed!

 

So, in order for me click on 'accepted solution' my friend, you're gonna have to explain to me HOW IN THE HELL DID THIS WORK!!!!  Cheers though dude.

Sadly, this appears to have been a temporary solution.  System worked fine until about 2 hours ago, when it started the same black screen/modern standby issues.  Checking the event viewer, there are a few "Win 32k errors", mostly re power manager not requesting suppression of all input, which appears to put it into a modern standby tailspin.  I'm guessing at this stage, given that a CMOS check/repair provided a temporary solution, that there is something up with the CMOS battery?  Is this something I can check and repair myself, or does the whole laptop need repairing under warranty?  I'm getting seriously fed up of the time I'm having to spend on this, on a laptop which is less than a year old.  Ridiculous state of affairs, and making me seriously reconsider ever buying HP again.

Right, that's it - tried a CMOS reset again, and now it's died completely.  Won't boot up into windows, stays on black screen, and no change when connected to an external monitor.

 

Going to return to HP under warranty, unless anyone else has any good ideas.
