My laptop was working fine.  Battery was getting weak, and I replaced battery on seeing youtube videos.  After changing the battery, I connected power line and it clearly indicated that it was charging (orange light display).  Once that completed pressing power button did nothing.  I attempted to follow other steps like discharging existing power in the board, by removing battery and power supply, press / hold power button for 30 seconds, and so on.  Power button is still not working.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi  @GB6419,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Verify Battery Installation

  • Confirm that the battery is properly seated in its bay without any gaps.
  • Ensure latch locks are tight and battery connectors are not damaged.

Perform a Hard Reset

Performing a hard reset can clear and reestablish the connections between the BIOS and the hardware.

For Notebooks with Removable Battery:

  1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Disconnect any peripheral devices.
  3. Remove the battery.
  4. Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the battery and plug the power cord.
  6. Turn on the computer.

For Notebooks with Non-Removable Battery:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter.
  3. Remove any discs from the disc drive.
  4. Remove memory cards and disconnect nonessential peripherals.
  5. Press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.
  6. Reconnect the AC adapter and turn on the computer.

Verify Power Sources

  • Ensure the AC adapter is connected to a verified working power outlet and check for any physical damage to the adapter or power cord.
  • If the computer does not boot, test with a verified working adapter.

Check Power Indicators

  • Check the front power light and rear AC adapter light to verify the computer is receiving power.

Reseat Connections

Sometimes loose connections can cause power issues:

  • Reseat the battery into its bay.
  • Check and reseat internal cables such as the power connector cable.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Whenever possible, update to the latest BIOS, firmware, and drivers which might include fixes for your computer issues.

  • You can update the BIOS and drivers using HP SoftPaq Download Manager and HP System Software Manager to simplify the process.

I hope this helps.
