Pavilion X2 Detachable k000ng Windows 7 32bit

Hi all Users,

I have a big or small problem.

A few years ago I got the X2 K000ng with Windows 8.1 preinstalled.

I upgraded to Windows 10. Fine as well.

Currently I really need Windows 7 32bit. Downgrade is not possible further than Windows 8.1

I wanted to use BCM to change the Bios setting to Legacy Mode but it's not possible. "Access Denied".

What can I do to make the device to boot up and load Windows 7 32bit setup from a stick?

AND YES, I KNOW THAT I WILL HAVE TROUBLES BECAUSE OF THE DRIVERS.

HP does not support and recommend the downgrade. It's very important to downgrade for me.

Nope... Atom X4, 2GB Ram... no chance.
The Bios does not give me a legacy option.
HP Bios Configuration Utility (BCU) shows up the legacy option is there but deactivated (not visible).
Changing is not possible because a password is needed for BCU.
So, no option to boot from a stick with Win7...

What may just possibly work is to format the 32 GB eMMC if you can and partition a small 4 - 5 Gb area and drop the W7 expanded .iso on there, then it will quickly install or fail, much quicker than using a USB stick;~)))

This may require another PC. Find and Download your .iso from…
(You will need a NON_OEM key for W7);
W8.x and W10 should activate automagically from their embedded licence key.

Expand/Extract/Burn the iso Image onto a DVD/USB as needed.
Microsoft’s Creator Tool will make the required DVD or USB.

Then you can try System Recovery Options / Advanced Options shown in the screenshots.

NB:- W7 Try running a Startup Repair more than once for a full fix.
From either the C:\ or the X:\ prompt try the following

cd boot
bootrec /FixMBR
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBCD

Rufus to make a USB?

All nice solutions are not leading to success.

Format the eMMC with a small setup partition did not work, because the X2 does not boot from.

Legacy is not possible, because not selectable... only secure boot OFF... and secure boot does not

emulate legacy.

Rufus is a good tool, I used it very often. I can create sticks with Win 8, Win 8.1, Win 10.

All booting fine. A stick with Win 7 does not boot into setup.

Same stick and an other stick.

As it seems it's not that easy to downgrade lower than Win 8.0 😞

OK.

The only thing to add is that W7 does not play well, if at all, with USB.

So plan B is Plan A with a side salad.

If you cannot get W7 working from a USB stick, then try and make a W8 or 10 USB stick, drop into Command Prompt.

Copy the W7 expanded install .iso from either another USB stick onto the SSD, and try setup.

OR   if it resides in a folder on the W8/10 USB stick log to it and run setup.exe.

ELSE Nothing else comes to mind, cept a DVD and USB DVD drive.

IF only secure boot is available then I don't believe it is gonna work.

I will try to boot up a stick with Win10 and a folder located on the stick, changing via cmd to the folder and startup the setup from Win7. It should work. The question is: Will it boot then or is it more sensefull to create a small partition and install Win7 there?
I fear that the x2 will not bootup Win7.
Because of the small power it will take a lot time just to know the result.
Give me time and I write about success or not 😉

Ok, next round to get it done.

Now I am able to boot Win7 32bit from stick.

Solution was as above.... BUT Win7 needs a SD Hostcontroller Driver to continue.

I found a lot of drivers but none was accepted.

Where can I find those drivers for 32BIT?
