Hi:

You are correct.

The parts list for your notebook indicates that you have a HP Pavilion dv9260nr Notebook PC.

HP PartSurfer

HP never released any BIOS updates for the dv9000 model series other than those that can be run in Windows XP or Vista.

My understanding is that some very good PC repair shops that have BIOS reprogramming software can take the BIOS files out of the exe file and there is a way to update the BIOS when not in Windows.

Ok, but did they release "some" for XP & Vista? plus obviously there's an original, which for some reason, considering their huge profit margins, HP can't host an archive server (like others do), vs suggesting external dl sites at own risk (actually did that when I searched the product).

Setting it up as a linux server for some oldies. Like many hp products this thing runs hot. Was doubtful, but curious if Maybe they released a fix, no info on a product page to find out, no support other than a forum, which can be done on Many external sites. Great after sales customer service, regardless of age.

This thing has F.2"C", perhaps there "was" an A & B, no product info page find out. A few 3rd party sites have F.2"E", but the batteries buggered, which doesn't matter as it will be constant plug-in, apart from the fact that it requires min 20% charge to upgrade bios via phlash (winflash), /forceit doesn't work, no dos availability, bios is locked, & white listed, paying a "good PC repair shop"  is throwing good money after bad with something like this, better to bin it & put that $ towards a diy nas, even a pre-built, just not a HP one.

Believe I know the answers, however, If anyone knows/discovers the following, plenty looking for the answers to;

1. Force update with dead battery.

2. "Unlock the advanced bios settings".

From another thread, apparently HP locked them "to protect customers". Most who have "no idea" what their doing, likely have no idea what a bios is, let alone know how to access it. If they do/have, their prob being guided by a youtube tutorial. Plus there's always the reset to default option.

You wrote that you did not want the exe file, did you not?

Did I not reply that HP did release BIOS updates for Windows XP and Windows Vista?

HP no longer allows anyone access to their FTP site anymore, so the only BIOS files I could find were from my old posts helping other forum members with the same question.

HP quit allowing access to their FTP site last December.

Here's the Windows files.   F.2E

Info and exe.

Thank you. I was attempting to avoid an essay with the 1st post, "assuming" it would be a simple request, process.

Was hoping to avoid installing XP or Vista (which I have), just do a simple dos upgrade.

Wasn't sure from reply if there were or weren't updates post F.2C. 3rd party F.2E could have been anything, vs safe from HP.

Frustrating when a company such as HP can't provide simple "safe" environment with info relevant to a serial #, even the ftp info doesn't mention dv9260nr, nothing came via my many searches, including your old posts.

Would have made things very simple, especially considering the majority of their customers are likely noobs who walk into department stores, get wrangled by commission earning sales people, with "this is the best deal you'll ever find (hope they don't ask their kids), how about we throw in a free mouse, discount on extra warranty, & put it a payment plan for you? Oh Wow, really? yes please.

Anyhow... as expected, getting code error -122, are you aware of a work around similar to /forceit, or any other, without spending?

Advance bios would also be handy, HP shouldn't concern themselves with who accesses what on their personal equipment, especially this old. Imagine if all companies did that, have pay a tech to come out to adjust the gamma on your tv.

You're very welcome.

The F.2E BIOS update I posted is not from a 3rd party website.

That file, and the info html file I posted are directly from HP's FTP site.

F.2E was the last BIOS update HP released.

There is also an F.2D BIOS update which was the next one after F.2C, but that one does not have an info html file link associated with it, because I checked it and get this...

Error>
<Code>NoSuchKey</Code>
<Message>The specified key does not exist.</Message>

</Error>

But if you want the F.2D BIOS update file in addition to the F.2E update I posted earlier, here it is:

F.2D

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42001-42500/sp42187.exe

Maybe that one will work without a hitch.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to work around any BIOS update file not running errors.

If running the file as an administrator doesn't work, I wouldn't know what else to do.

I only use HP and Dell business class PC's and notebooks, and those have BIOS files that give you the option to update the BIOS outside of Windows.

Wish HP had done the same for their older consumer class PC's.

Although to give them some credit where credit is due...on the newer consumer model notebooks and desktop PC's made in the last few years, the BIOS file gives you an option to create a bootable USB BIOS recovery drive and allows you to recover or update the BIOS outside of Windows, as you can see from this discussion...You just plug the flash drive into the PC turn it on, and it works like magic.
