Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

We have a Pavilion x360 that is around 3 years old and now it won't power up.

We tested the AC adapter it's working fine.

It shut down yesterday while on battery power. When we plugged it in the power LED doesn't come on and the power-on button does nothing.

We left it charge overnight, this morning the power LED was on. After pushing the power-on button the PC did nothing and the power LED went out.

Could this be a bad battery? Or some other issue? Seems like it should boot up if it's getting power through the AC adapter?

Thanks - Keith

Hi @Keith643,

I understand your Pavilion x360 is not powering on even though the AC adapter is working. Let’s go through a few steps to identify what’s causing this issue.

Check Power Source

Verify the wall outlet is working by plugging in another device (like a phone charger or lamp).

If using a surge protector or extension cord, try connecting the charger directly to the wall socket.

Inspect the AC Adapter and Port

Confirm that the LED on the adapter (if available) is lit.

Ensure the charging connector fits snugly in the laptop’s port and isn’t loose or bent.

If you have access to another compatible HP adapter, test with that to rule out low voltage output.

Power LED Behavior

Note any brief flashes or blinks from the power LED when you press the power button — it can indicate a power or motherboard fault.

If the LED turns on and off immediately, the issue may be with the internal battery or mainboard.

Perform a Hard Reset

Unplug the AC adapter.

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain any residual charge.

Now reconnect only the AC adapter (leave the battery inside if it’s non-removable) and press the power button again.

Check for Battery Fault (if removable)

If your Pavilion x360 model has a removable battery, take it out and connect only the AC adapter.

Try to power on — if it starts, the battery is likely faulty and needs replacement.

Inspect for Signs of Power

Listen closely for fan noise, drive spin, or keyboard backlight when pressing the power button.

If there are no sounds or lights, this indicates a power delivery or motherboard-level issue.

I hope this helps.
