I have an older HP Envy 15 which is giving me the "Remove disks or other media" message. Nothing is connected. It was originally a Win 7 which got updated to Win 10 via download years ago.
Not sure what info is relevant but I've tried going into the BIOS settings and changing the UEFI Boot order and Legacy Boot order to no avail yet.

Hi@magnus77, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Request you to follow the below troubleshooting steps from the "Remove disks or other media" messag
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F2 once.
4) Go to the Component test.
5) From the list, run the Hard Drive (quick) test.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
