Pavilion g&

I have to replace my hard drive.  I am hoping that I can use one from my wife's old Pavilion dc9000.  However, when I put the drive in the new laptop, I get the error "boot device not found. Please install an operationg system on your hard disk.  Hard Disk (3F0)".  I ran the Hard Drive Check and it was good.  I have a bootable copy of Windows10 on an USB drive.  I tried all of the USB ports.  In case it is a USB problem, I put the drive back into the old laptop, formatted it, installed Windows, and put it back into the new laptop.  Still no joy.  Could the old drive not be compatable with the newer laptop?

Hi

It could be a compatibility issue.

In the BIOS the choice between LEGACY boot and SECURE boot matters.

As does the GPT or MBR style.

So my suggestion is to verify what the old machine is set as and attempt to duplicate that on the newer one.

If in doubt please ask.

That didn't help.  The hard drive is not on the list.

Changing to legacy worked. Thank you very much.
