Dear HP Support Team,
I am reaching out regarding a serious issue with my HP Omen 15-dg0030ng gaming laptop (equipped with RTX 2080, 32GB RAM, and 2TB storage), which I purchased in 2020.
Issue Summary:
- Upon startup, the main display flickers briefly and then goes completely black
- After several restarts, neither the internal screen nor external monitors display any image
- When booting from an external Ubuntu drive, only the small secondary display and an external monitor worked briefly; the main screen remained off
- After further attempts, no screens work at all, although I can still hear the Windows 11 startup sound (indicating the system boots)
- Key combinations like F4, F9, F10, F11, Windows+B, and Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B have no effect
- I already reapplied thermal paste and cleaned the fans, but the issue persists
- the provided image is the screen shot before the laptop not responding displays anymore.
I kindly ask for your support in answering the following:
- What might be the root cause of this issue — could it be related to the GPU (RTX 2080), display cable, motherboard, or other hardware components?
- Is there a way to disable the dedicated GPU (NVIDIA RTX 2080) blindly at boot time to test the integrated GPU, if available?
- Are there any HP-specific key combinations or recovery options to force display reset or switch to internal/external screen during boot?
- Could this be a known issue with this model?
I would appreciate any steps or recommendations you can provide to help diagnose or resolve this problem.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Kind regards,
Kerolos

Hi @KerolosGhobrial,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing such a detailed description of your issue — we truly understand how frustrating display problems like this can be, especially on a high-performance system like your HP Omen 15-dg0030ng.
Based on your description and troubleshooting efforts, this issue may involve the GPU, display cable, or motherboard. Unfortunately, this model doesn’t support disabling the dedicated GPU blindly at boot.
I would request you to please run an Extensive test and run the display test, and see if you see the same issue in this test.
Extensive Test:
1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4. Click Extensive Test.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, as it will help others find the solution. Click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping!

Dear Vikram,
Thank you for your response and support.
I followed your instructions and attempted multiple restarts. On one occasion, the system successfully booted into Windows, but only the small secondary screen was working. I managed to run several command-line tools to check the hardware status and took screenshots of the outputs.
After updating the NVIDIA graphics drivers, the screen turned black again after a few minutes. While no display was available (including external monitors), I was still able to transfer important data from the laptop to my cloud storage . the transfer ran successfully for a full day, indicating that the system itself was functioning normally, just without any working display output.
After researching the issue, I suspect that the problem may be related to a faulty MOSFET or fuse, which could be limiting the power delivery to the GPU and screen. I also had the device inspected by a repair company in Vienna, who estimated a minimum repair cost of €600 ,possibly more , as they would likely replace components rather than attempt detailed repairs. Another company expressed interest in repairing it but requested the detailed electrical circuit diagrams in order to properly diagnose and fix the issue.
Could you please provide the electrical schematics or boardview diagrams for the HP Omen 15-dg0030ng? This would be extremely helpful in allowing a skilled technician to attempt component-level repair, rather than opting for costly full replacements.
Looking forward to your support and guidance.
Best regards, Kerolos Ghobrial
