Reset password on hp laptop

I inherited my laptop, and had it cleaned and reworked, I put in a password and I thought I had it written down but I can’t find it.  How can I get in.

Options to Regain Access to Your HP Laptop (Windows 11)

1. Try Password Recovery (Microsoft Account)

If you signed in with a Microsoft account (like Outlook, Hotmail, or Live email):

• Go to Microsoft Password Reset
• Choose “I forgot my password”
• Follow the steps to reset it via email or phone verification

Once reset, you can log in again and change your password to something memorable.

2. Use Password Hint or Local Account Recovery

If you used a local account (not linked to Microsoft):

• On the login screen, check if a password hint appears below the box.
• If you still can’t remember it, you’ll need to reset the password using recovery tools.

3. Use a Password Reset Disk (if created)

If you created a password reset disk earlier, plug it in and follow the on-screen instructions.

4. Reset the Laptop (if all else fails)

If recovery isn’t possible, you can reset the laptop to factory settings:

Steps:

1. On the login screen, hold Shift and click Restart.
2. Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
3. Select Keep my files or Remove everything.
4. Follow the prompts to reset and set a new password.
