Hi @CUMMINS2

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for reaching out.

Let’s walk through how you can reset the memory module safely and effectively.

Steps to Reset the Memory Module in an HP Notebook

1. Power Down and Disconnect

  • Shut down your notebook completely.
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery if it’s removable.
  • Disconnect any external devices.

2. Discharge Residual Power

  • Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain any residual electricity from the system.

3. Access the Memory Compartment

  • Flip the notebook over and locate the memory access panel.
  • Use a small screwdriver to remove the panel cover.
  • If your model doesn’t have a dedicated panel, you may need to remove the entire bottom casing.

4. Reseat the Memory Module

  • Gently release the clips holding the RAM module in place.
  • Remove the module and inspect the gold contacts for dust or corrosion.
  • Clean the contacts with a soft microfiber cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Reinsert the module firmly until the clips snap back into place.

5. Reassemble and Restart

  • Replace the panel or casing.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  • Power on the notebook and check for improved performance or resolution of previous errors.
