HP Pavilion - 15-cs3006tx
Microsoft Windows 11

A week back my windows 11 went to update and after which my laptop didn't boot. During boot i got the message that "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause". After this i check my BIOS and noticed that SSD Kioxia KBG30ZMV256G BG3 is not detected at all. Since my windows was downloaded in that SSD, now I can't boot in at all to even roll back the update. The SSD contain pretty important information, how do i recover or ensure that SSD is not corrupted.

Hi @Voorwer,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It can be quite concerning when your SSD is no longer detected following a Windows update. Here are the steps you can take to attempt to resolve this issue:

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup.
  • Navigate to the Boot options or Storage configuration and ensure that the SATA or NVMe ports are enabled where your SSD is connected.

Physical Check:

  • If you are comfortable with opening your laptop, ensure that the SSD is securely connected to the motherboard. Improper connection can sometimes cause detection issues.

Reset BIOS:

  • While in the BIOS, you could try resetting to default settings; sometimes this can help in re-detecting the hardware.

Use a Different Device for Data Recovery:

  • You can try removing the SSD and connecting it to another device using an external enclosure. This way, you might be able to access and recover data even if the SSD isn't detected in the BIOS.

BIOS Update:

  • Check if there’s a BIOS update available on the HP website for your laptop model. Updating the BIOS might solve compatibility or detection issues.

Data Recovery Services:

  • If the data is critical and the SSD is still not detected, consider reaching out to professional data recovery services for assistance.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @Jerry_57,

Apologies for reverting so late, however the issue is still not resolved. I tried resetting the BIOS to default settings, checking the physical connection and also putting the concerned SSD in a different device but it still couldn't be detected.
