Ever since I updated my PC, whenever I would switch it back on it keeps asking me for my recovery key. It says that my secure boot changed and I did not do anything. Please help make this stop. I use Windows 11

Hi @Ora_Tilee21,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Did the recovery key prompt start immediately after a specific Windows update?
  • Are you using BitLocker drive encryption on your system?
  • Do you notice any changes in BIOS/UEFI settings, such as Secure Boot or TPM being disabled/enabled?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try in the meantime:

  • Check BitLocker status:
Open Settings > Update & Security > Device encryption/BitLocker and confirm if BitLocker is turned on. If it is, Windows may be asking for the recovery key because it detected a change in Secure Boot or TPM.
  • Verify Secure Boot settings:
Restart your PC, enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing Esc, F10, or Del during startup), and check if Secure Boot is enabled. If it was changed during the update, restoring it to its previous state may stop the recovery key prompt.
  • Update TPM firmware:
Sometimes updates affect the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). In Device Manager, check under Security devices for TPM and see if a firmware update is available.
  • Sign in with your Microsoft account:
If you don’t have your recovery key handy, you can retrieve it by signing into your Microsoft account on another device .

I hope this helps.
