Secure boot option greyed out in BIOS settings of HP 15au111tx

Hello,

I have an HP laptop 15-au111tx with Windows 10 64 bit insider preview installed. The bios is Insyde F.55 currently set to legacy boot due to Windows 10 installed on MBR partition of SSD.

I plan to shift to GPT partition so as to enable UEFI boot using MBR2GPT tool.

Just out of curiosity I went into the bios to disable legacy,(for trial only) but disabling legacy did not let me switch secure boot state. What can be the reason for the same? I have TPM 2.0 support too.

Hi,

I believe you need to install Window in UEFI mode for secure boot to become available in BIOS.

Thanks! Just one more thing. Do I need to clean install Windows 10 or just converting partitions from MBR to GPT using MBR2GPT tool is enough?

Hi

You will need to clean install the OS in Efi mode. So turn off legacy mode and insert the bootable USB drive with Windows on it.

Since you will be performing a new install. This would be a great moment to upgrade to an SSD. You could replace the 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD. It would give a great boost in everyday performance to the machine

As I said above it would give a great boost to the performance of the notebook. You could then use a SATA to USB cable to retrieve your personal data from the old drive.
