HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cc0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

When I start my laptop, a black screen comes up HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.  When I do a hard drive check the SMART check shows passed.  The short DST failed.  The failure ID is 9W636F-8QK9PH-MFPURF-60QM03.  A message recently came up about the fan but I didn't get a screen shot of it.  Does anyone know what the failure ID means?

Hi:

The short dst failure means that the hard drive needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

That is a relatively new model. If it is still under warranty contact HP technical support and submit a support case under the warranty to have that work done.

If not, below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive R & R procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the hard drive with a better performing, normally more reliable 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

You can reinstall W10 by making a recovery drive using the HP Cloud recovery client utility.

Here is a link for how to use that utility...

Thank you so much for the response.  I have had this laptop for about 2 years and unfortunately it is no longer under warranty.  I am going to take your advice and install a more reliable solid state drive.  Thank you for the links.
