I have a HP laptop that I've had for a few years. Always before when I turn it on it asks for my pin. It's a 4 digit number and it has always worked. Today it is a black screen and in the middle of the screen it says my name and is asking me for a password.  I have never ever had a password on this computer! What do I do??

See if there is an option clicking on the screen to show a pulldown that also allows you to use a password.

It IS asking for a password, but I have never had a password on this computer, only the pin.

Understand ... but did you check to see if there is a pull-down next to the password that allows you to select using a PIN?

 

Asking because my new HP laptop has exactly the same thing.
