OK, so the USB drive you have highlighted in black is the one you boot from when you are in the F9 boot options menu.

But if you get that no hard drive error, you will have to return the NVMe SSD and install a SATA one.

I recommend the Western Digital Blue SA510 M.2 SATA SSD.

Ok I plan on getting the SAMSUNG 870 EVO SATA III SSD 1TB 2.5” Internal Solid State Drive, Upgrade PC or Laptop Memory and Storage for IT Pros, Creators, Everyday Users, MZ-77E1T0B/AM after a tech suggested it it shows that I'll need a bracket as well as a sata cable i kno the bracket ill need but will I actually need the sata cable? It says it's for storage and transferring data or something but my last ssd even tho it was smaller didn't seem to have any extra cables just the ones I saw connected I'm also very confused on how to install it 😭

IMHO, that's too much trouble.

I would just get a 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD.

That's what your notebook originally came with.

Adding a 2.5" SSD is too much work, and you have to find and buy the parts listed in chapter 3, page 21 of the service manual to add a 2.5" drive.  And the bracket is not available as a spare part, so you would have to duct tape/Velcro the drive to the chassis or something similar.

Amazon doesn't seem to have it in stock right now...but I used NewEgg many times to buy PC parts.

Your right they don't have it in stock I tried the other website but for some reason it keeps telling me the site wouldn't load I clicked the Amazon link and it gave me this second option is this a good alternative I kno it's more expensive but I'm not worried about price just want it to work

Why don't you just get the one from NewEgg?

It's $30 less.

I don't know anything about that model other than to say it isn't meant to be installed in notebook PC's.

They were designed to be used for NAS systems.

My concern would be that this drive will run hotter and use more voltage than a standard SATA SSD used in notebooks like the WD Blue.

Okay my new egg SSD came I'm trying to set it up I already have the flash drive that has everything downloaded on it yet it's still not doing it it keeps on saying there's no HDD maybe I put it in wrong I put it in where the brand is facing upwards not sure what else to do unless I did it wrong and the brand is supposed to be on the bottom

HP Recommended

The drive can only go in one way.

You have to line the one key up with the notch in the slot.

Could you perhaps explain a bit better what do you mean by the one key and notch in the slot?
