My laptop started with a black screen in the past, power led light up with no HP logo, when it finally started it always freezes when using. I already RMA it once and got the whole screen replaced new, the problem went away for a while until today it starts having the same issue as before again. My laptop only has 2 months of warranty left. I want to ask for advices about my case because I worry that RMA the second time won't solve the problem.

I never touch BIOS settings, after the RMA instead of updating I use the factory default drivers and it still causes problem. I haven't check CMOS battery yet but can it be the culprit?

Hi@Sakamoto,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We reviewed your post and I understand that the  Notebook is not Powering ON,

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps

Do you see a light at the place where the charger connects to the laptop? If yes then it indicates that the charger is all fine.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.

F6 + Power Button

  • CMOS Rest ( combination of windows button and letter 'V' then push the power button ones and release the windows and letter 'V' after 5sec

If the laptop does not power on then please continue with the below steps:

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery out.
  • Connect only the battery and check if the laptop powers on.
  • Likewise, remove the battery out (if removal battery ) and connect only the charger, and check if that helps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello Praveenbv, thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions and here's what I found:

The light at the charger port is on so I think it's fine.

My laptop uses non-removable battery.

After I did the CMOS Rest the laptop started with a blue screen that says "Invalid CMOS checksum, the setting will be reset to default configuration..." and then it booted to window. I noticed my screen still freezes when using and I had to adjust the lid for it to unfreeze itself. I tried to boot the 2nd time and got a black screen again, did the CMOS rest again but this time no blue screen and it booted up. From the 3rd try till now I can boot to window normally. What do your suggest? In the meantime I will use it as much as possible to see if the screen freeze still occurs.

Okay I think I know what been causing the problem, today my pc starts with a black screen as well and after a CMOS rest and a blue screen (invalid checksum) it boots to window. What am I to do next?

Hi@Sakamoto,

You have done the basic troubleshooting as per the document and the notebook needs to check to get to know its hardware is faulty, not a software issue.

I'd suggest you contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your computer or HP Chat Support Team.
