Stream 11-r014wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I accidently held down the Power Button to reset my computer when it was updating as I thought it was locked up. It completed the updates, then turned off. I tried to turn it on but the notebook failed to do so.

The AC Light can turn on but even if I hold/press the power button the computer is not starting. I tried the hold button for a Hard Reset but It's not working or I'm not doing it correctly.

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that you have an HP Stream Notebook - 11-r014wm. I read that while the laptop was updating, you pressed the power button to reset the laptop. The updates completed and then the laptop powered off. However, now the laptop does not power on. The charging light comes on and nothing happens. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job. Not worry, I'll do my best to help you.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Do you know they were Windows updates or a BIOS update?
  • Do you see any other lights on the laptop?

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

NOTE: If you have performed any of the steps then please skip then and continue with the next steps:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • This laptop has an integrated battery therefore we cannot remove it out like other laptops.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue persists then I suggest you to go through the HP step by step troubleshooter guide for fixing no power issues.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you, lucky you told me that my Laptop wasn't with a removable battery, saving me time (when I looked my laptop up on the internet not much was seen about it so I had to assume similar models are close enough).

I believe it was a windows update (it was using the Win. 10 UI while it was updating and it was one of those things where the computer will update when it shuts down). I held down the power button, but I belived it continued updating and powered off. The notebook seemed to be able to complete the update and power down as usual, but when I tried turning it on it failed to do so.

Other than the AC Light (Which is white instead of orange, persumably due to near-full charge) turning on when connected, no other lights have appeared. Holding down the power key does not seem to be working and so most of the things on the troubleshooting don't seem to work in the first place.

You're welcome and thanks for attempting the steps.

If there are no other lights except the charging white light then it indicates towards an internal hardware failure with the laptop. However, before we conclude this issue, I suggest you to try out a few more things that might help:

  • Disconnect the charger. Try to power on the laptop on the battery power.

If the laptop still does not power on and no other lights come one on the laptop then I suggest you to contact our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your laptop.

I hope this information helps. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. Take care! 🙂
