Hp elite x2 1012 g1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

as it says above my hp elite x2 1012 gets stuck on the secure boot screen.

On the screen it reads:

“A request has been made to change this system’s secure boot configuration. Which may affect the secure boot keys and/or may disable secure boot.

please Type in and enter the below number for authorization.

0177”

Ok so I try to enter the number but for some reason it does not detect my keyboard. So there is nothing I can do but to press the power button and turn the machine off.

And yes I tried to disable secure boot because I wanted to install windows 7.

I can’t figure out why they would implement an option to turn off secure boot if it essentially breaks the computer. Since there seems to be nothing that can be done about that. It’s stuck on the boot screen no matter how many times I restart and since it doesn’t detect any keyboard, I can’t type in the code to authorize. What’s the point of this option then??

what can I do to reset bios so

it starts normally. I’d use windows 10. I don’t care anymore I just need this thing to work.

Thanks!

@BeachFreak

When you type the 4 digit code, the numbers wont show on screen. Just type the numbers and hit the Enter key.

Let it reboot.

Does that work now?

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately I already tried that and can confirm that the computer doesn’t seem to detect any input through keyboard.

That’s why I’m so confused about this.

Why having this “secure boot authorization” come up if you can’t type anything in to authorize? Haha

Im afraid the only thing that would help is to completely reset bios to manufacturer setting or something.

It saddens me that a tablet that is perfectly fine is rendered useless because of this design error.

Do you have a regular USB keyboard you can plug into the G1? Im wondering if the bluetooth keyboard is losing connection when on that screen?

I think it also has a button for activation the Onscreen keyboard. Does that do anything also?

I tied a wireless usb keyboard without luck. I don’t have a wired usb keyboard at hand at the moment. Will get one tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

There is no button for the onscreen keyboard unfortunately.

Anyway I really appreciate the help

man!

lets say the wired keyboard won’t make a difference either, what then?

What would be my options? Open the **bleep** thing and take out the cmos battery? Does it even have one?

Perhaps this ....

Turn off the tablet.

Disconnect kbd then press power button and volume down button for 5 seconds to see if it will open starup menu. See if the onboard kbd shows up.

I did what you suggested but nothing changed. Still the boot screen and no onboard keyboard.

HOWEVER! Under the four digit

code that I’m supposed to type in there is now a row of 4’s showing up.8E2A8A8C-5699-43A9-BE78-F197D1F61F92.jpeg

What is going on....

I dont know if Win 7 will work out either, since HP doesnt have drivers for it. Only 8.1 and 10.
