Hello, recently my BIOS updated via a Windows update prompt on my HP Victus 15 fb0xxx. After that I noticed random stuttering on certain CPU heavy games. Although the temps are not too high (70-80c) it seemingly throttles the CPU by dropping the voltage which causes frame drops and stutters at random intervals. Prior to the BIOS update FPS and temps where much more stable. A temporary fix I found was turning on "Quiet mode" with max fan speed via the omen gaming hub app.
Specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600H
GPU: RX 6500M
RAM: 16 GB
OS: Windows 11 Version 24H2 Build 26100.2894
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ayuwu,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
The issue you described is likely tied to changes in power management or thermal throttling introduced by the BIOS update. Modern BIOS updates often tweak settings for CPU behavior, thermal thresholds, or power delivery, which can result in unexpected behavior like this.
Here are steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Revert to the Previous BIOS Version (If Possible)
- If you’re confident the problem started after the BIOS update, rolling back to the previous version might resolve the issue.
- Steps:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Enter your laptop model (Victus 15 fb0xxx) and navigate to the Drivers & Software section.
- Download the previous BIOS version.
- Use HP's BIOS Update tool to revert. You can find this in your laptop’s BIOS setup menu or HP Support Assistant.
- Note: Reverting BIOS carries some risk. Proceed cautiously and ensure the process is not interrupted.
2. Check Power Management Settings
- The BIOS update might have reset CPU power profiles or performance modes.
- Steps:
- Enter the BIOS setup during startup by pressing F10 (or another key, depending on your laptop).
- Look for power or thermal management options and ensure the performance mode is enabled.
- Disable any options that might limit CPU performance, such as "C-States" or "EPP" (Energy Performance Preference).
3. Check Windows Power Plans
- Ensure the correct power plan is selected:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Set the power plan to High Performance or Ultimate Performance.
- Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the Processor power management section and set:
- Minimum processor state: 100%.
- Maximum processor state: 100%.
4. OMEN Gaming Hub Optimization
- Since you noted that enabling Quiet Mode with max fan speed helps, consider creating a custom profile:
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
- Go to Performance Control > Custom Mode.
- Adjust the fan speed to maximum while keeping performance on a higher setting.
- This might balance thermals and performance without relying on BIOS changes.
5. Update the OMEN Gaming Hub and Related Drivers
- The OMEN Gaming Hub and HP System Event Utility work closely with the BIOS for thermal and power management. Ensure they are up-to-date:
- Update OMEN Gaming Hub through the Microsoft Store.
- Update the HP System Event Utility from the HP Support website.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!

Would you mind if you could provide me with a BIOS version older than AMI F.22, 2024-07-23?
Laptop model: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/victus-by-hp-15.6-inch-gaming-laptop-15-fb0000/model/2101128983...
Since an older version is not available on your website.
