Hello,

My HP Victus 15-fa1093dx recently shut down randomly and will no longer boot. I’m looking for help into whether this is recoverable or a motherboard failure.
-----I have never had any problems like this before-----

Problem:

  • The Power Button flashes on a 4-second strobe (4s on / 4s off).
  • The Charging LED cycles roughly 2s off / 7s on; kind of in sync with the power button.
  • Neither Caps Lock nor Num Lock lights respond or flash.
  • The screen remains black; no fans.

What I was doing before:

I was installing OpenSSH Client & Server via PowerShell. The progress bar was stuck on a percentage for a while, and I was letting it sit(I believe), then it suddenly shut down.

Note on Recent Changes: A few days prior, I attempted to install OmenMon. It initially worked but then failed with the error: Failed to initialize the embedded controller.

Troubleshooting steps I have done:

  • Held power button (strobe continues regardless).
  • Disconnected internal battery and held power button to drain residual energy.
  • Reseated RAM and tested with original sticks. (upgraded to 32gb a few years ago)
  • Let the unit sit and discharge for 48 hours on a non-static surface.
  • Checked the motherboard for burnt components(none visible through my swift check).
  • Attempted USB BIOS Recovery and Key combos (Win + B / Win + V).

My theory:

I suspect a corrupted Embedded Controller. With OmenMon, the previous "failed to initialize" error makes me wonder if that was the issue that resulted in a failure.

Questions:

  1. Does this specific flashing pattern correspond to an error code?
  2. Is there any other reset method that I haven't tried yet?
  3. Given the specs, if this is a motherboard failure, is it worth a board replacement (half the price of new), or is it better to buy a new machine?
  4. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to proceed?

-I’ve seen online that OpenSSH can take a long time to install, and I regret not being more patient, though a software install shouldn't typically trigger something like this.
-I am not tech illiterate, so I'm not afraid of taking apart (not meaning to sound corny).
-I have seen that other people have had this problem, but I have not seen a definitive solution. Similar problems/sources: 1234

-Ai helped with formatting and wording

Thank you in advance for any help.
