Hi @Tom1962,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your HP Beats Special Edition 15z-p000 CTO Notebook PC is beeping three times and displaying a black screen when you try to turn it on, the beeping sequence typically indicates a hardware issue. Let’s go through some sensory-rich troubleshooting steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.

1. Identify the Beep Code Meaning

  • Listen carefully to the beeps—three consecutive beeps typically point to a memory (RAM) issue. The sequence of the beeps might repeat after a short pause.
  • Feel the tension in the silence between the beeps, as these are important diagnostic codes from the motherboard to let you know what’s malfunctioning.

2. Power Cycle the Laptop

  • Turn off the laptop completely, then unplug it from the power adapter. Feel the cool plastic of the power button as you hold it down for 15–20 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  • Afterward, reconnect the power adapter, but leave the battery removed if it is removable. Turn the laptop on again, listening for any changes in the beeping or system behavior.

3. Reseat or Swap the Memory (RAM)

  • Remove the back panel of the laptop to access the RAM. Feel the smooth metallic edges of the small screws as you unscrew and remove the panel.
  • Locate the RAM sticks and gently release the clips that hold them in place. Feel the click as the RAM pops up at a slight angle.
  • Remove the RAM sticks, blow off any dust, and carefully reseat them into the slots, ensuring a tight connection. Listen for the firm click as they lock back into place. If you have two RAM sticks, try starting the laptop with just one RAM stick installed to test for faulty memory.

4. Check the Display Connections

  • Ensure that the internal display cable is properly connected by opening the back panel again. Feel the tension in the delicate wires that connect the display to the motherboard, making sure none are loose or damaged.
  • If possible, connect your laptop to an external monitor via HDMI or VGA to check if the laptop is outputting video externally. Feel the smooth click of the HDMI cable as you insert it, and see if the external display shows anything.

5. Test for Hardware Failure

  • If reseating the RAM and power cycling don’t help, the issue may be with the motherboard or other internal components. In this case, the beeping may require further hardware diagnostics. Feel the patience it takes as you might need to seek technical phone help, especially if it involves replacing the motherboard or CPU.

These steps aim to address possible memory-related or display issues, which are common causes of three beeps and a black screen. Let me know how the troubleshooting goes or if any particular step produces different results!

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
