As mentioned, the mouse operated by the touchpad frequently does not appear on starting, but does so on restarting. All drivers are said to be up-to-date when checked.

Hi @Neilkud

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that—having your touchpad vanish on startup and only reappear after a restart is definitely annoying, especially when everything else seems up to date.

Let’s walk through a few steps that can help stabilize it and keep that cursor right where it belongs:

1. Enable Touchpad in ChromeOS Settings

Sometimes it’s just toggled off:

  • Click the clock in the bottom-right corner > Settings.
  • Go to Device > Touchpad.
  • Make sure Touchpad is turned ON.
  • Adjust sensitivity or tap settings if needed.

🔄 2. Perform a Hardware Reset

This clears temporary glitches:

  1. Turn off your Chromebook.
  2. Press and hold Refresh ⟳ + Power for 10 seconds.
  3. Release both keys and let the device restart.

This reset won’t erase any data—it just refreshes hardware connections.

🧪 3. Check for ChromeOS Updates

Even if drivers seem current, ChromeOS updates can fix device-level bugs:

  • Go to Settings > About ChromeOS > Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates and restart.

🔧 4. Test in Guest Mode

This helps rule out profile-specific issues:

  • Sign out of your account.
  • Click Browse as Guest.
  • See if the touchpad works normally on startup.

If it does, the issue may be tied to a user setting or extension.

🧼 5. Remove Extensions That May Interfere

Some Chrome extensions can mess with input devices:

  • Go to chrome://extensions.
  • Disable any extensions related to input, accessibility, or mouse control.
  • Restart and test again.

Let me know what happens after the hardware reset or if you'd like help checking your touchpad settings. You’re doing the right thing by tackling this calmly—we’ll get that cursor back in action! 🖱💪
