How? Just how? I need to do this to install an operating system and the laptops bios doesn’t have a fast boot option. I can’t even downgrade it.

Hi @SuperAviation1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the BIOS of your HP 15s-du1016tu does not have a visible option for Fast Boot, you can still try a couple of workarounds to address the issue:

1. Disable Fast Startup in Windows

Sometimes, Fast Startup in Windows can interfere with the installation of a new operating system. To disable it:

Open Control Panel:

  • Press Win + X and select "Control Panel" (or search for "Control Panel" in the Start menu).

Navigate to Power Options:

  • Go to "Hardware and Sound" and then click "Power Options."

Choose What the Power Buttons Do:

  • On the left, click "Choose what the power buttons do."

Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable:

  • Click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" to unlock the greyed-out options.

Disable Fast Startup:

  • Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" under "Shutdown settings."

Save Changes:

  • Click "Save changes."

2. Perform a Full Shutdown

Sometimes, performing a full shutdown can help bypass issues related to Fast Startup:

Open the Start Menu:

  • Click on the Start menu.

Select Power:

  • Click the power icon.

Perform a Full Shutdown:

  • Hold down the Shift key and then click "Shut down." This will initiate a full shutdown rather than a restart.

3. Clear the CMOS

If your BIOS does not have a Fast Boot option, clearing the CMOS might reset any existing settings that could be causing issues:

Power Off and Unplug:

  • Turn off your laptop and unplug it from any power source.

Remove the Battery (if possible):

  • If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.

Press and Hold Power Button:

  • Hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.

Reassemble and Power On:

  • Reinsert the battery (if removed), plug in the power cord, and power on the laptop.

4. BIOS Update

Check if there's a BIOS update available for your laptop. Sometimes, newer BIOS versions can provide additional options or fix existing issues:

Go to HP Support:

  • Visit the HP support website for your specific laptop model.

Download and Install BIOS Update:

  • Follow the instructions to download and install the latest BIOS update.

Refer to this document:  HP Notebook - 15s-du1016tu User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
