HP Pavilion X360 14-CD0036TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP laptop has two storage slots, for HDD/SSD and M.2. I installed a new M.2 drive in my HP laptop and I have cloned the Windows (C:) using Macrium Reflect into the new M.2 drive. I have opened the Disk Management, verified that cloning is successful and able to access those files in M.2 drive.

I went into BIOS by pressing F10 during boot, but I cannot find  M.2 SSD in the option.

I have also tried hitting F9. In Boot Manager > Boot Menu Option > Boot from EFI file  and I get below screen. I followed the steps mentioned by  Sheogorath, up until step 6, however Windows still loads from old HDD.

I think the HD (1, GPT..) refers to HDD and by right there should be HD GPT2 for M.2 drive.

Appreciate if anybody can shed some light

BIOS version/date: Insyde F.34, 29/4/2019

BIOS mode: EUFI

Hi @ECHO_LAKE

I appreciate your time to reply. Thank you so much. I have tried the steps you mentioned but the new SSD still didn't appear in the list. Only existing hard drive (GPT1) is listed.

Upon checking, I made a mistake during cloning of the SSD. Earlier I only copied C drive and I have missed on out on copying the Recovery Drive, Windows RE tool drive. So I redo the cloning to include those that I had missed out. Upon reboot,  new SSD (GPT2) appeared in the list when I pressed F9.

Then I have followed the steps mentioned by Sheogorath and it works perfectly after that.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

  • Have you tried disabling the secure boot and enabling legacy boot?

Please follow the steps below to see the SSD in boot options.

  1. Boot to bios and go to boot options.
  2. Disable secure boot and enable legacy support.
  3. Save the changes and restart the computer.

Now when you start the computer and go to boot options by pressing F9 you should see the SSD there. Follow the link below for enabling the legacy support: http://hp.care/2f5Mae9

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
