Hi, my laptop crashed suddenly and entered a "preparing automatic repair" and black screen loop. I've managed to remove my hdd and backup my files on another devices, then I placed it back. I've tried running a win 8 usb boot and DBAN to format the hdd, but both didn't work. finally I ran HP System Diagnostics and tried to run both quick & extensive system tests, it showed Failure ID: PLX5WK-7MC99J-MFGJMG-07T403. I need to identify whether this is a software or hardware failure.
Thanks in advance

You should be able to replace the processor. Your Maintenance and Service guide will give you the info you need. I can't find the Guide without full Model and/or Product number of your laptop.

CPU failure is a hardware failure.

First of all thanks for your reply. I forgot to mention that the check failure also appears on testing the memory(but according to the HP blink code my RAM should be working) and the system board passes the check.

Is there a way to determine wether I could replace the processor and not the whole motherboard? it's an intel core i7-4722HQ. Also, I have a Nvidia GTX discrete graphics card, if I were to replace the board, will the GPU be soldered to it or could be removed?

Thanks!
