HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I recently started an HP Elitebook Folio 1040 G1 up for the first time in quite a while. It had an unknown user password. I installed W10 on it to get it to start working. No problems there. After updating windows and such I tried updating the BIOS, this is when I get some issues. There is a BIOS password on the device, I tried taking out the CMOS, but there is still a password. The device does not give me any lockout numbers after I try to input a password 4 times. Does anyone know the default password on these machines?

Hi,

Unfortunately,  business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case.

If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.
