Hello.
I've got an old HP Pavilion dm1-4000sp that was starting to feel ridicously slow. I know it won't ever be fast, be it got to a point where even 720p videos played from the HDD were'nt playing to I decided to change the hard drive to an SSD.
So, I bought an OCZ Trion 150, assemble it and proceeded to install Windows 10 from USB (I had already upgraded it to Windows 10 before). All worked fine initially, and the computer did seem faster, but then I noticed a peculiar behavior. If I shut down windows the computer won't start. I get a blinking cursor on the top left and that's it. If I start the computer with the USB drive where I installed windows from and then restart from the drive and allow it to boot from the SSD it works fine. If I restart Windows again, normally this time, it also works fine. But if I select shutdown, then the computer won't boot.
Toshiba already replaced the drive, even though it seems the first one was working properly, and the behavior persists.
I update the BIOS to the last version available, but it's already from 2013.
Is there anyway to fix this?
thanks

Hi@kluffu,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I was going through your post and understand that you need assistance in fixing the Boot issue. Is that, right? I will be glad to help you.
I request you to try reinstalling the OS and while installing the Windows, select the SSD using the onscreen option and check if that solves the issue.
Hope that answers you the question. Feel free to reply for more.

Thanks for the suggestion.
But I'm confused. What do you mean by selecting the SSD? It's the only drive I have, it's where it installed by default.
And as I said I can restart the laptop and it works. Just not boot after shutdown. I never saw this one before.
Regards,
J

Hey@kluffu,
Thanks for the response.
HP has never tested your PC with the SSD hard drives.

Thanks for the reply, but that's kind of pointless answer.
Yes, with the original hard drive, the computer works, but it doesn't solve the extreme slowness it shows. And besides, the warranty is long gone. This lapto will be 5 years next month.
