I have a HP pavilion x2 Detachable P5P07EA

Its become unusable due to win10 updates filling the 32gb eMMC drive built into the screen.

I have tried everything. I have no programs loaded but still have only 600mb free.

Is it possible to replace the ssd with a larger one 64gb or 128gb.

Even if it needs soldering in is it possible

Alex

Unfortunately, that would not be possible unless you replace the system board with one of the boards that come with the 64 GB eMMC flash storage drive listed in chapter 3 of the service manual.

The only way I know of to get around the problem would be to clean install W10 and start fresh.

W10 ran its last updates on Tuesday, so you shouldn't be plagued with that issue anymore.

Have you tried any 3rd party disk cleanup utilities?

I have been using the free Wise Disk Cleaner app for several years now and it works great.

Wise Disk Cleaner - Free Disk Cleanup and Defrag Tool

It finds files to delete that even the 'cleanup system files' option in Windows doesn't find.

I've cleaned up more than two gigabytes of files after Windows updates have run from time to time.

I run the app once a week on all of my PC's.

Thanks for the info.  A few yrs ago I formatted the c'drive and re installed win 10 with latest updates which lasted for a while.    I love this laptop which I bought new in 2016. Shame to throw it away. I considered putting win7 on it. as it takes up less room.

I will try the Wise Disk utility, sounds good.   I have seen a few posts from others with same problem. Why did HP only fit 32gb as a c drive with a large 1Tb hard drive in keyboard.  Ruined a good setup.

You're very welcome, Alex.

Yes, I wondered what HP was thinking.

Many, many posts on this forum regarding the HP Stream notebooks and other related models with 32 GB drives.

Maybe a 32 GB drive was feasible with much older operating systems like XP or W7 but not with anything newer than that.

If I'm not mistaken, a bare W10 installation takes up well over 20 GB of drive space without adding a single file.

If all else fails, there is an OS called Tiny 10 which installs a bare minimum functioning Windows OS and you actually have to add additional components you want.

I used Tiny 11 on one of my PC's, I even had to go to the MS Store to add the MS Edge browser app for example.

I guess he calls the latest Tiny 10 version 23H1.

Here is an article on the OS:
