   This machine drives me crazy.  1 out of every 4 start takes 20 min or more and then after it finally gets going it like pulling teeth to open anything at all I am ready to throw it in the river.

It is an average machine, it should during normal daily works. You may install many things to it which make it has to load to dead. My suggestions

 

1. Reinstall Windows 10 using ISO file from

              https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10

  1. Mount ISO file as DVD drive and run Setup,
  2. Follow instruction to Keep user files and programs

2. Upgrade slow HDD to faster 2.5" SSD using compatible drive such as  https://www.samsung.com/au/memory-storage/sata-ssd/870-evo-250gb-sata-3-2-5-ssd-mz-77e250bw/

 

You should get better speed for your machine.
