I keep getting this message when I reboot my computer and I don't know what it means.  Message as follows:

fTPM NV corruped or fTPM  NV structure changed.

Press Y to reset fTPM, if you have a bitlocker or encryptions enabled system

the system will not boot without a recovery key

Press N  to keep previous fTPM record and continue system boot, fTPM will not  be enabled with new CPU unless fTPM is reset (reinitialized), you could swap back to the old CPU to recover TPM related keys and data.

I have been pressing N to keep previous fTPM and continue as I don't know what my recovery key is.

My computer turned itself off today while I was in my email and I had a hard time getting it to reboot.. I am not computer savy.   Will pressing N harm my computer eventually?

Hi @Obie69,

Thank you for responding.

Choosing N will not harm your computer in the future, but it will prevent the fTPM from being used and may cause a prompt to appear every time you boot up your system.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @Obie69,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

The message you're receiving indicates a problem with the firmware Trusted Platform Module (fTPM) on your computer.

Here is a breakdown of the options presented:

Pressing 'Y' to Reset fTPM

  • This will clear the current fTPM configuration and reinitialize it. If your system uses BitLocker or other encryption services, you will need the recovery key to access your encrypted data after the reset.
  • Ensure that you have any necessary recovery keys before proceeding with this option.

Pressing 'N': This allows you to maintain the existing fTPM configuration and continue booting. However, if you've changed the CPU or plan to do so, fTPM won't be fully operational with the new CPU unless it is reset.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thank you.  I was worried answering N would hurt my computer.  I do not know what my key is.

Where does one get a key for their system?
