HP Notebook - 15-f272wm (ENERGY STAR)

I have an older HP laptop 15-f272wm and when I try to start it I get flashing lights on my caps lock key. 2 short then 2 quick flashes.

I think I need a recovery file for the BIOS from what I have read.

Anybody know what file that would be????

P.S. my USB port doesn't work so I was hoping I could burn a disk and use it in the d drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @Jimbo_49,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the blinking light on the caps lock!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems like your HP 15-f272wm laptop is showing a blinking Caps Lock pattern, indicating a corrupted BIOS. Here’s how to fix it:

1. Get the BIOS Recovery File: Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page and enter your laptop's model number (HP 15-f272wm). Download the BIOS update file.

2. Create a Bootable Recovery Medium:

Using a USB Flash Drive: If at least one USB port works, create a bootable USB drive with the BIOS recovery file.

Using a CD/DVD: If USB ports aren't working, use another computer to download the BIOS recovery file and burn it onto a CD/DVD.

3. Perform the BIOS Recovery:

Insert the bootable CD/DVD into the laptop’s optical drive.

Turn off the laptop completely.

Press and hold the Windows key and the B key, then press the power button for 2-3 seconds.

Release the power button but keep holding the Windows and B keys until the BIOS recovery screen appears or you hear beeping.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the BIOS recovery.
