Hi @MajorMantle
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the confusion—when you set up your HP laptop with Windows 11, it asked for a PIN, but behind that PIN there is always a sign‑in ID (your Microsoft account or a local account).
The PIN is simply a shortcut to sign in more quickly, but the system still relies on the underlying account.
How to find your sign‑in ID
1. Check Windows account settings
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Accounts > Your info.
- Here you’ll see the account name and email address (if you’re using a Microsoft account).
- If it shows “Local account,” then your sign‑in ID is just the username you created during setup.
2. Verify through sign‑in options
- In Settings > Accounts > Sign‑in options, you’ll see that the PIN is linked to your account.
- The account listed there is your actual sign‑in ID.
3. Check user accounts directly
- Press Windows + R, type netplwiz, and press Enter.
- A window will open showing all user accounts on the laptop.
- Your sign‑in ID will be listed there.

Once you confirm your sign‑in ID, you’ll be able to use it for recovery, password resets, or switching sign‑in methods.
