Hi @Jays82,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Stream is having trouble completing a master reset and keeps restarting the process at 49%, there could be a few reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

Power Cycle the Device:

  • Turn off your HP Stream.
  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if applicable).
  • Hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  • Turn on your HP Stream and try the reset process again.

Check for Errors:

  • Pay attention to any error messages or codes that appear when the reset process fails. These can provide clues about the specific issue.

Use an External Media for Reset:

  • Create a Windows installation media on a USB drive using another computer.
  • Boot your HP Stream from the USB drive.
  • Choose the option to reinstall Windows, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Disk for Errors:

  • If there's a problem with the internal storage, it might be causing the reset to fail.
  • Boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) by restarting your computer and holding down the Shift key while clicking Restart.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  • In the Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f and press Enter. This command will check and repair disk errors.
  • After it completes, restart your computer and try the reset again.

Update BIOS/UEFI:

  • Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your HP Stream on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS/UEFI may resolve compatibility issues.

Remember to back up any important data before attempting these steps, as the reset process can result in data loss.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
