Received notification to install Windows 10 security update with TPM security update. After installing the update, Windows rebooted but get a message "Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Choose another sign-in option and set up your PIN again...". The other login option is password, and it doesn't accept my Microsoft (Outlook) password.
This is the file I chose and installed:
I'm able to reboot into safe mode, but everything I try there (reset, etc.) asks for a PW. I'd like to try to restore to a previous restore point if possible.
THANKS!

Thanks again!
OK, I did what you suggested and successfully set an administrator password. It works when asked for a PW when creating a PW disk, and when I went back into the security settings. Unfortunately it doesn't work to let me sign in on the main screen, possibly since I don't have an administrator account set? Is there anyway to to set a PIN for the default account?
Currently, the "Security" screen shows: Administrator Password (Clear) Power-On-Password (Set)...)3 other lines).... TPM Device (Available), TPM State (Enable), Clear TPM (No) and the " Restore Security settings to Factory Defaults".
Also, I want to skip the "Power on" password screen before it brings up the "user" login screet.
I now have hope that I don't have to do a full reset! Thanks for all the guidance.
*****EDIT: I disabled Administrator Password (now shows "(Clear)", and Power-On Password (now shows "(Clear)"
Still need to find out how to disable "User" PW...
TPM Device = (Available), TPM State = (Enable), Clear TPM = (No)
Should I try "Restore Security settings to Factory Defaults" again?
Thanks!
****** EDIT 2: After spending hours trying all the combinations of TPM settings, etc and searching for a way to save my system, I resorted to installing "Lazesoft Recover My System" on another computer, creating a rescue USB flash drive to reset the system pasword. It's up and running now and I'm rethinking my account strategy. Sorry a weekend interuppted our dialog...

Restoring to a previous restore point isn't likely to help. It won't affect the TPM update since it is hardware based -sort of like flashing the BIOS where no system reset/restore changes it.
Have you tried entering BIOS and reset the TPM. Or enable it- then disable?

Thanks for your response, CherylG!
Can you give me some guidance on the best method of recovery?
I have a recovery disk that I created nearly two years ago. I've been able to use it (USB stick) to get into Recovery Manager, but am stalled with what files I should backup in addition to the usual "pictures, music, documents, spreadsheets, emails, internet favorites and settings" Ie. use "User Selection" instead of "Auto Selection"? Is there any way to backup installed programs (non-windows)?
I also have an EZGig/Apricorn full system backup that's just over a year old. Is it possible to restore from this full system backup without being able to boot into the failed computer? It might be faster than having to re-install everything again.
After this I just do a "System Reset" and let it go?
Thanks again for your help.

Have you tried entering BIOS using F10 key and reset the TPM. Or enable it- then disable?

Thanks for this suggestion. Would this: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05807442 be a good guide to follow? I've gone into "UEFI Firmware Settings" - Restart - and on Startup Menu selected F10 "BIOS Setup" and scroll across the top headings to Security where there is "TPM Device" (Available) "TPM State" (Enable) and "Clear TPM" (No). The bottom line is "Restore Security settings to Factory Defaults". Which option(s) should I try? (It shows BIOS Version F.48 on the Main screen.)
Thanks for your help!

I would select "Restore Security settings to Factory Defaults". I believe you may have to Enable TPM if it isn't before it will let you restore to factory defaults.
